Our Diversity Vision at NSTAR is to create a workplace community that is inclusive and welcoming for all. We strive to diversify our workforce, and encourage our employees to contribute their distinctive perspectives as well as draw fully on their talents and skills. This allows NSTAR to provide superior service to our customers while making NSTAR a great place to work.

Councils
Our NSTAR Diversity Councils all have senior–level
sponsorship, and play a key role in promoting an
inclusive culture. Members are employees from all
business areas and occupations at NSTAR. Our Diversity
efforts have grown from one corporate Council to three
Councils. Our two newest Councils are operating in our
service centers. Council members work on projects aimed
at creating a respectful and inclusive workplace. Some
examples are:
- Created and distributed a Diversity Toolkit for managers
- Created a “Walk In My Shoes” program and tools to improve teamwork
- Researched NSTAR Customer Demographics
- Conducted focus groups to gather NSTAR Diversity Best Practices
NSTAR Women
NSTAR Women began as a small group of women meeting
informally to talk about ways they could support each
other and contribute to NSTAR. They are now an
officially recognized and sponsored resource group at
NSTAR whose mission is to leverage and support the
contributions of women at NSTAR.
Women in
Non-Traditional Jobs
At NSTAR, many women are working in jobs that have been
traditionally held by men. From Engineering, Electric
Operations and Gas Supply, more women are finding their
niche in the field serving customers on the front lines.
NSTAR is working hard to recruit and retain women for
non-traditional jobs at NSTAR.
In fact, meet Sue and Gloria.
Race Dialogue Group
A key component of our work in Diversity is to ensure we
understand the experiences of our colleagues of
different races and cultures within NSTAR. That is why
we created a dialogue group to expand our understanding
and increase our skill in working across race and
culture.
Diversity Education
Our employees are encouraged to attend workshops to
learn skills that contribute to a respectful workplace.
Examples of these workshops include "How to Make the Right Decisions in Difficult
Situations” and "Managing Multiple Generations in the
Workplace."
Domestic Partner Benefits
NSTAR is proud to offer Domestic Partner Benefits to its
employees. Our Diversity Councils played a key role in
researching the issue and working with Human Resources
to offer this benefit.
NSTAR YMCA Black Achiever
NSTAR has a long and proud tradition of supporting this
worthy community program. Each year, managers submit the
names of employees who have distinguished themselves as
outstanding performers, consistently exhibited trust and
respect in relationships with fellow NSTAR employees and
have shown a commitment to voluntary community service.
