NSTAR owns hundreds of properties for the distribution and transmission of electricity and natural gas (i.e. substations, gas take stations, service/operating centers, right-of-ways, warehouses, and related corporate facilities and offices).
Over the course of the years, certain NSTAR properties become retired, obsolete, or redundant and are deemed surplus (i.e. no longer needed for the existing or future operations of the company). In this scenario, these surplus properties become available for sale and/or lease.
In addition to NSTAR property available for sale and lease, NSTAR has a Wireless Leasing Program that makes certain properties available to wireless communication companies for the installation of antennae and towers on NSTAR properties.
Also, in certain instances, NSTAR may need real estate/property in connection with an electric or gas project in our 121-city/town territory. A listing of property needed is identified on the Request for Proposal Section.
NSTAR has hundreds of miles of electric rights of way, some of which are owned by NSTAR and others which are held in easement and owned by others. NSTAR’s Engineering Right of Way Group reviews and controls uses of the rights of way by others, so they do not interfere with NSTAR's ability to conduct its operations safely and efficiently. The “Utilization of NSTAR Electric Transmission Rights of Way Policy” must be adhered to for proposed property uses along our easement rights of way.
Finally, if a third party property use and/or request involves a NSTAR property that would not be categorized in the above-mentioned categories, NSTAR has created the “Property Request Form.” This must be completed and forwarded to NSTAR for review.
