Increases Incentives for Business Customers to Invest in Efficiency
November 22, 2005
NSTAR is
significantly expanding its commercial lighting programs
to offer more help to business customers trying to save
money during this time of high global energy prices.
NSTAR has long provided incentives to customers seeking
to reduce their energy use, and last year gave nearly
$20-million to business customers investing in energy
efficiency. Now, in an effort to offer additional help
to businesses looking to save both energy and money,
NSTAR will pay an even greater share of the installation
cost of new, energy efficient lighting fixtures.
“NSTAR is doing all it can to help customers lower their energy costs in light of what’s happening in the global energy markets,” said Penni Conner, NSTAR’s Vice President of Customer Care. “These programs are especially important because customers will save money when they install energy efficient lights, and they’ll save money every month they use them.”
Lighting can account for 25 to 50 percent of a business’ electricity use. NSTAR’s improved lighting programs can now pay up to 90 percent of the installation cost of an approved small business project. Larger business customers are now eligible for an additional 50 percent of the incentives they would normally receive.
“The importance of energy efficiency extends beyond the individual benefits it provides,” added Conner. “As we all become more mindful of how we use energy and of ways to reduce our use, the region as a whole will benefit because we’ll rely less on fossil fuels and the power plants that burn them.”
