NSTAR workers are once again in Queens, New York helping to rebuild the city’s underground electric system. Sixteen cable workers, inspectors, supervisors and mechanics left Boston on Saturday and headed to the Big Apple to address problems that occurred during last week’s heat wave and to take over where their fellow NSTAR workers left off one week ago.

ConEdison, New York City’s electric utility, requested additional assistance from NSTAR following a successful 10-day trip that began on July 22. During that time, NSTAR workers accomplished much and received numerous praises from local residents and utility management.

The NSTAR workers are putting in 16-hour days under the streets of Queens to rebuild the electric system that left up to 100,000 residents and businesses without power for over a week in July.

Power was restored to many residents using large, portable generators and much work remains to put the system back to normal. The NSTAR workers are expected to be in New York through this week.
