Easy-to-Read Device Calculates Electricity Use in Real Time
May 10, 2007
NSTAR Electric customers have
a new tool to help them save energy and take control of
their electric bills. Through a first-in-the-nation
rollout, NSTAR is enhancing its successful energy
efficiency programs by offering a reduced price on the PowerCost Monitor™, which connects easily to most
residential electric meters and transmits electricity
usage information to a handheld device inside the home.
Consumers can then see exactly how much electricity they
are using in their home and what the hourly cost is at
that time.
“The PowerCost Monitor™ is a tool that literally puts
control of electricity usage right in the palm of a
customer’s hands,” said Penni McLean-Conner, NSTAR’s
Vice President of Customer Care. “Our customers can now
make real-time decisions about how and when to use their
appliances.”
Studies have shown that people who can see and
understand their electricity usage with feedback
technology were able to reduce consumption up to 15
percent. By using a PowerCost Monitor™ in their home,
NSTAR Electric customers can see which appliances are
the most expensive to run, the immediate impact of
turning various appliances on and off, and the results
of switching to energy efficient appliances and
lighting.
NSTAR is offering a limited number of Blue Line
Innovations’ PowerCost Monitors™ for $29.95, including
shipping and handling. For more information, NSTAR
Electric customers can call 781-441-3865.
NSTAR transmits and delivers electricity and natural gas
to 1.4 million customers in Eastern and Central
Massachusetts, including over one million electric
customers in 81 communities and 300,000 gas customers in
51 communities.
