NSTAR Electric & Gas and its largest labor union, Utility Workers Union of America AFL-CIO, Local 369, are pleased to announce that union members have ratified a three-year contract extension. The new contract will take effect June 2, 2009 when the current contract expires.
“I am so proud of the work NSTAR employees perform everyday and that, together with union leadership, we were able to extend this contract that meets their needs as well as the needs of our customers,” said NSTAR Chairman, President and CEO Tom May. “It’s clear that we are united in our goal to deliver great service to our customers while keeping costs down, especially during these tough economic times.”
“Reaching this agreement four months before our contract was set to expire is in the very best interest of our members and NSTAR customers,” said Gary Sullivan, President of Utility Workers Union of America, Local 369. “Workers will continue to provide top-notch service on a daily basis, while also being secure in the knowledge that they’ll be covered by a fair contract for the next three years.”
The contract extension provides for the continuation of existing benefits and programs along with market-based wage increases of 3.25% for the first two years and 3% for the third year. UWUA Local 369 represents approximately 1,900 NSTAR employees working throughout the company’s service territory.
