NSTAR Invites Customers to Lose a Fridge and Find $50
June 21, 2010
The old, inefficient fridges and freezers that live in the
basements of many homes are quietly costing their owners up to $150
a year on their electric bills. A new recycling program from Mass
SaveŽ is available to customers of NSTAR Electric and electricity
customers statewide who want to put a stop to the waste and earn $50
for participating.
“Our energy auditors find second fridges or freezers in the basements of many of the homes they visit,” said Penni Conner, NSTAR Vice President of Customer Care. “Customers are so surprised to learn how much energy those old units are wasting that we’re expecting participation in our new recycling program to be strong.”
Unlike traditional rebate programs, there’s no purchase necessary to participate in the refrigerator and freezer recycling offer. Customers interested in scheduling a pickup need only call 877-545-4113 or visit www.masssave.com/recycle.
The Mass Save fridge and freezer recycling program is available to all NSTAR Electric residential customers and to those of other participating utilities and energy service providers throughout Massachusetts. A maximum of two units per household can be removed as part of the program. All must be secondary units, in working order and have an inside measurement of 10 cubic feet or more.
NSTAR customers can learn more about this and the many other programs and rebates the company has to offer by visiting the energy efficiency pages of www.nstar.com.
