NSTAR Launches New Home Energy Reporting Program
Reports Provide Customers with Personalized Natural Gas Usage Information; Program Expected to Deliver to Customers Significant Savings in Annual Bills
September 13, 2010
More than 25,000 residential NSTAR customers in Eastern Massachusetts recently began receiving comparative Home Energy Reports as part of an innovative new energy efficiency program designed to help residents better-track how they’re using natural gas in their homes so they can save on monthly utility bills.
The reports provide each customer with personalized natural gas usage information and savings tips to help them reduce the amount of gas they use and lower overall energy costs.
“The Home Energy Reporting program provides our customers with a personalized way to reduce their energy use and save money on their monthly utility bills,” said Penni Conner, NSTAR’s Vice President of Customer Care. “The reports help customers pinpoint how they’re using natural gas in their homes and give them the information needed to make some simple adjustments that can result in significant savings.”
Developed by OPOWER, an energy efficiency and Smart Grid software company, the Home Energy Reports provide NSTAR customers with detailed information about how they’re using natural gas in their homes, including how their gas use compares to the average in their neighborhood, combined with saving tips specific to each household.
The reports provide NSTAR customers with the information needed to become more efficient with their in-home energy consumption by taking simple and inexpensive actions to avoid wasting energy. Home Energy Report participants can also access the information online, where they can dig even deeper into their past gas usage and browse a library of energy recommendations.
